Manual Tooling
The simplest type of tooling is one that uses fixed locators and hand clamps to locate and secure the part.
When properly designed, this type of tooling does a great job of holding parts consistently for processing.
When higher throughput, error-proofing or improved ergonomics is desired, the more sophisticated approaches below are used.

Pneumatic Clamping
Your fixture can be designed replacing the hand clamps with air driven actuators for holding the
part in place. This can reduce load/unload time and improve ergonomics in many situations, including:

Part Presence Sensing
Progressive can error-proof your tool by adding part presence sensors.
These sensors allow the robot system to confirm that the parts have been
loaded properly before processing of the part.

Auto-Pneumatic Clamping
Combining the pneumatic clamping and part presence sensing creates the most sophisticated class of tooling.
These are often called "smart tools" because they do so much.
The tooling is controlled by a PLC to allow part presence confirmation,
clamp position sensing, clamp sequencing and even open and close during welding.
