Pin Pallets for Blanks

Progressive Systems can supply pin pallets for use with your automated press tending system. The pin pallets allow you to accumulate blanks and load the pallets into the system.

Pallets can be loaded by forklift into a stationary Pallet Dock within the system or the pallets can be transported in and out of the system by conveyor.

Pallet-less Blank Infeed

Move your shearing operation next to your press and accumulate blanks without the need for pallets. Our pallet-less system of moving stacks of blanks into the press-tending system reduces work in progress (WIP) and creates a just-in-time part flow.

Your operator can feed stacks without interrupting the system. The system transports the next stack in when the pick zone is empty. Stacks of blanks are fanned at the pick-up point using magnets to avoid feeding double-blanks.

The blank infeed system can be setup to run a range of blank configurations. Just contact us for details.

Press-Tending Grippers

Square is Better

Progressive builds press-tending tooling using square cross section aluminum extrusion instead of round tube. We have found that the more common round-tube construction allows the tool to drift over time. This leads to mis-loads, crashes and frequent re-adjustment. The square extrusion provides greater rigidity & repeatability with low weight.

Holding Force

Our tooling holds the blanks using vacuum, magnets or mechanical grippers. The method chosen is based on the needs of the part and the clearance available in the die.

Protect Your Dies

Adding a double-blank detector to your gripper is a good idea. Expensive die damage can result if two blanks are loaded into the die undetected.

A double blank detector mounts to the gripper in the area above the blank. It can detect whether two blanks have stuck together when the robot picked from a blank stack. The robot can then take steps to release the extra part and halt production if it cannot.

Applications

Press Load & Unload

The simplest press application for a robot is to load a blank and then remove the finished part. This can be especially valuable when the part is heavy or difficult to handle. The risk of injury to a person in this case often more than outweighs the cost of a robot tending system.

Line Die Transfer

Many stamping operations require that a blank be struck by successive dies in order to complete the part. Robots are often used for this transfer operation, with one robot picking and loading blanks and another robot performing the die-transfer.
